Start-up- Fill spa & bring temperature to at least 90oF (granular chemicals won’t dissolve in colder water)
- Fill floating dispenser with CHLORINE TABLETS, set dispenser between 3 & 5 and put in spa
- Test and adjust your water within 12-24 hours (if you are new to water chemistry or you know the water in your area is out of balance, test as soon as possible)
Chlorine- Chlorine is a 2 part system, chlorine from your floating dispenser and the activator, REFRESH
- The way chlorine sanitizes is by bonding with the contaminants in your spa and when the activator is added, that bond is broken and the contaminants are oxidized
- On average, 1 to 2 capfuls of REFRESH are needed per week. It is ideal to add ½ to 1 capful after using the spa. Using a small amount of chemical more often versus adding the entire 1 or 2 capfuls at the end of the week will aide in keeping your spa’s water more consistently clear.
- Adding REFRESH to your spa 15 to 20 minutes prior to testing your chlorine levels will provide you with the most accurate chlorine reading
TestingTest approximately once a week or with a heavier than normal bather load Be sure to test in the following order because each element influences each other:
1. Alkalinity, 2. pH, 3. Chlorine
- Test and adjust Alkalinity
- If alkalinity is low, add 1 capful of PERFECT BALANCE until balanced
- If alkalinity is high, add 1/8 cup MURIATIC ACID (available at most hardware stores) until balanced
- Test and adjust pH
- If pH is low, add 1 capful ADJUST UP until balanced
- If pH is high, add 1 capful ADJUST DOWN until balanced
- Test and adjust chlorine
- If chlorine is consistently high, close the dispenser a number or two
- If chlorine is extremely high, add 2 capfuls of REFRESH, leave the cover off and circulate water for several hours (you may also use a product called X-IT, available at Arctic Spas Saskatoon)
- If chlorine is consistently low, be sure that you have added REFRESH in the last few hours, if you have, open the dispenser a number or two. If you haven’t added REFRESH recently, add 1 capful and retest in 15 to 20 minutes.
- If you have recently added refresh or there have been a large number of people in your spa and you are still not getting a proper chlorine reading, wait a day while it is reestablishing a proper chlorine level through the dissolving chlorine tablets.
FYI- Be sure to have your jets on high when adding any chemicals, let them circulate for 10 to 20 minutes to dissolve the chemicals completely
- Most often you will only need to add 1 capful or less of chemical at a time, slowly adjust your levels using small amounts of chemical to prevent over correction
- Be prepared to change your water within the first month, after that your water should last between 3 and 4 months (or more if you have an ozone generator in your spa)
- The disposable filter lasts 3 to 4 months based on bather load and water quality, change the filter when it is dark to the core of the filter (warning: if you leave the filter in your spa too long, it starts to disintegrate)
- While using the disposable filter, NO LIQUID CHEMICALS are to be used with the exception of liquid sanitizers or fragrances
- If you have hard water or a large quantity of minerals in your water, be sure to fill with a pre-filter to ensure the quality of water
- Chemicals should be stored in a cool, dry place to ensure safety and effective chemicals
